Some Technical Details....
SuperFlex bushes have
an extremely high tension- and compression-bearing capacity.
This enables them to be lighter, thinner, and more durable
than rubber bushes while still retaining their superior strength.
Unlike rubber bushes, SuperFlex
polyurethane bushes are designed to function rather like a
bearing. This allows the suspension to move more freely around
its pivotal point and eliminates the restriction imposed by
the torsion pivoting inherent in most rubber bushes. The microscopic
release of the lubricating polymers impregnated during manufacture,
aided by Superflex's own assembly lubricant, gives SuperFlex
bushes their exceptional ability to absorb friction throughout
their long life. This, together
with their high load-bearing capability and outstanding abrasion
resistance, makes them ideal for almost any vehicle - especially
where original bushes are marginal.
Another achievement
is the remarkable breakthrough in the bonding of polyurethane
to steel, to the point where the bond normally outlasts the
life of the bush. SuperFlex
polyurethane bushes will not roll and peel away like rubber.
They are also inherently resistant to deterioration and swelling,
even when in regular contact with oil, greases, waxes, and
most other chemicals. SuperFlex
bushes also have the exceptional ability to perform in extreme
temperatures, as high as 90°C
and as low as minus 60°C.
SuperFlex polyurethane suspension bushes owe
their resiliency and their distinctive glossy finish to the
'poured and oven-cured' moulding technique used in their manufacture
(as distinct from injection moulding, which produces a hard,
lacklustre product of limited resilience). SuperFlex alone
manufacture from a range of four firmness grades - 70, 80,
90, and 95 Shore-A (some 10-45 points
higher than the average rubber bush). These grades are
carefully chosen for each individual application.
SuperFlex
bushes are designed with substantial side location shoulders
that eliminate axial displacement problems and in some applications
where abnormal stresses are imposed on the bush, special innovative
solutions are used to accommodate the unique characteristics
of polyurethane. Bullet Grooves, Knurling, Chamfering and
Fluting are some of the unique design features Superflex employ
to meet special needs.
